I hope you all had a wonderful and restful holiday weekend! I try to savor each holiday and season as it comes, but this year I’ve been bursting at the seams to deck the halls and spread some yuletide cheer. For better or for worse, I’ve decided to make and package handmade Christmas gifts this year. This seems like a good idea now…check back in with me around 2:37 AM on Christmas Eve as I sit under the tree chugging hot chocolate while I wrestle with craft supplies that, while once appeared adorable, become the bane of my existence. Too dramatic? Maybe it won’t be so bad. I’m hoping it will be fun, rewarding, beautiful and unique. And of course, I’m going to document the journey with you, my readers! I’ll update as I get further along in the process.
I’m armed with some pretty great supplies: trendy Ikea giftwrap, shimmery twine, holiday tissue paper, brown kraft paper, stamps and metallic ink.

I caught a gift wrapping & bow making tutorial at the Container Store and they are ALL about the double-sided tape– check to see when the ATL Container Store is having their next one, you should check it out! They had this poinsetta bow that was just…. oh, I want to start making them now and just make all the presents look gorgeous. Now, how do I get on this mix cd mailing list? :)
oh that sounds great, thanks for the tip! I am not naturally skilled at bow-making…i tie mine the same way i tie tennis shoes. Not that glamorous :) Send me your address, and you’re on the list! Done!
A few years back, Anthropologie wrapped gifts in brown boxes and then tied with multi-colored yarn wrapped around and around the boxes. It was really vintage and creative and I have thought of picking up some brown butcher paper and yarn for some classy Christmas gift wrapping. Your title reminded me of the idea! P.s. Your mix cds are awesome!
In addition to what’s pictured above, I have red and white baker’s twine and metallic shimmery string (yes I bought more things since this post, haha) but I had not yet thought of yarn! Excellent! FIY Ikea has brown paper for 99 cents :)
oh and you’re definitely getting a CD next time I see you!
“…these are a few of my favorite things”
I’m getting it stuck in everyone’s heads!
Do you care to share what you are planning on making? I’m desperate for some ideas on some money-saving homemade gift ideas!
Christmas mix cds for everyone! And maybe some versions of the photography and craft projects I’ve already been toying with. Other than that…not sure yet :)
