twelve by 2012

I love setting goals, and I love a good to-do list. There’s something about writing down your dreams–It’s so much more satisfying to cross off your accomplishments than to simply accomplish them! It’s also great to record your progress as you grow and experience new things. That’s why I was so pleased to see this new venture, twelve by 2012, over at Oh, Hello, Friend. There are a reasonable number of days left before 2012, and twelve is a reasonable number of goals. Danni has created her own list and encourages other bloggers to do the same, and to track each others’ progress. Below are the 12 things I’d like to accomplish before the new year. I want to hear yours, too!

1. Make my house feel more like a home. (It can be hard to really commit to decorating when you lease year-to-year. But I want to fully enjoy my surroundings by giving them some permanence–hanging artwork on the walls, etc.)

2. Expand my freelance writing career.

3. Refresh this blog to include better navigation, more features, and a landing page featuring more about me and what I offer!

4. Keep trying local restaurants and shops, using discount coupons whenever possible.

5. Reorganize my clothes, shoes, jewelry and accessories to better see what I own, and donate all unwanted items to Goodwill.

6. Organize my design magazines, inspiration folders, and other materials.

7. Get stronger at the gym!

8. Bake and cook at least a handful of things from scratch, using recipes I’ve collected.

9. Get my hands messy with craft projects, instead of just reading about them.

10. Read at least 1 more book for pleasure…surely I can do that before 2012?

11. Continue real-world design projects.

12. Get 8 hours of sleep per night. I wish I could run on less, but it’s for the best that I hold to this!

  1. Good luck with all of your goals, they look great. I would love to decorate my home some, more as it needs an update. But I think that I”m putting that one on the burner until summer, and most of my goals are about getting art work created, and organzing my making space. So far everyone’s list that I have read includes organizing something. It will be fun to see everyone’s spaces when they finish

  2. I am right there with you in #1! My place has been the same for over 3 years, I just have not put time aside to make it a ‘home’ but my husband and I have totally talked about how our place really has a huge effect on our emotions and the way we live. If it is a nice home-y place, it’s more happy but it’s so depressing when there are piles of junk everywhere! So now I am determined to really make our house a home. I like your goals, they are all very realistic and do-able. Thanks so much for participating in the project! – Danni

    • Thank you, Danni! I appreciate you stopping by and reading my goals :) I had my parents and brother come over this weekend and help me with a few little projects, so the walls are cozier now than they were a few days ago! I totally agree that environment can deeply affect your emotions. It’s probably the number 1 thing that drew me to the field of design! Now I’m motivated to post progress here on the blog and stick to my list :)

  3. Thanks for the comments, everyone! I’m so happy this project is already inspiring so much community and support! Now I’m extra-motivated :)

@Bria…I need your skillz! Thankfully, I know where you live :)
@donaville-welcome! I love your blog! so pretty! love the craft tips also.
@Sarah, your blog is gorgeous too! I literally feel like a different person when I sleep 8+ hours.
@judah’s blanket, I haven’t really picked out a book although I’m trying to re-read Harry Potter and I’ve only made it through book 1.
@andrea-I hear you on the fear of failure. I’m hoping setting ‘doable’ goals will end up being an encouragement!
